KaBOOM!, 2012. 978-1608862801

Synopsis: What time is it? ADVENTURE TIME! Join Jake the Dog, Finn the Human, Princess Bubblegum, Marceline the Vampire Queen, Lumpy Space Princess, and the Ice King as they battle against the super-ugly and super-mean Lich King to prevent Earth from being swallowed up forever!

Why I picked it up: The sheer awesomeness.

Why I finished it: Well, Earth is being swallowed up in a bag of infinite space by the Lich King and it looks like we’re goners for sure, but Jake and Finn will come up with a plan! A plan that will work! Okay, really though, the story is creative and well-executed without detracting from the canon of the show. And honestly, the comics build off of the world in the TV show to give more depth to the characters we all love so much. The art is simplistic and uses basic shapes to create the characters and the setting, but what really makes it pop is the colors. Ooo is a land of a rainbow of colors and the vividness of the colors makes the story really come to life and jump off the page. I love that Paroline and Lamb have kept with the style of the show art  and given it some more depth, especially with the backgrounds. I am also a huge fan of the full page character spreads and alternate covers included at the end just cause it gives it that little something extra. Overall, it’s an intriguing adventure for our favorite evil-vanquishing duo that keeps the reader entertained from the first page to the last.
