KaBOOM!, 2013. 978-1608863235

Synopsis: Jake and Finn are back for more adventures – this time with a time machine. When Princess Bubblegum invents a time machine, Jake keeps using it to go back and make trouble, despite the Princess’s royal decree that it is only to be used in emergencies. But when a mistake sends Jake and Finn into the future, they have to figure out a way to get back to the past!

Why I picked it up: It’s ‘Adventure Time’. As a comic. Don’t tell me that’s not algebraic.

Why I finished it: We finally figure out what happened to Finn’s math sleeping bag in the show’s pilot. No, that’s not the only reason. The adventure this time around is pretty epic, messing with time and finding out what the future is like and then realizing the future is full of evil killer robots….BMO was in the comic more this time around, but totally devoid of Marceline (I love Marceline) which was kind of a bummer, but honestly, doesn’t make the story any less exciting. I mean, how many of us wouldn’t love to invent a time machine to go back and re-do things that we messed up the night before? But as our adventurers prove, it has some bad consequences. The art is fun and quirky, and the colors give it a little bit of an edge as the reader jumps with Jake and Finn into the future. Like the first volume, the artists have matched the tone and feel of the original source material well and it provides fans with even more adventures even when nothing is new on TV. I’m totally stoked to see what Volume 3 has in store!
